Old Restaurant in Penang at Chulia Lane

I never get enough of this Hainanese restaurant – Shing Kheang Aun , not only the food but also the surroundings. One foot on the concrete step it immediately bring back memories of my childhood days when I grew up in this type of prewar houses. Some of the furniture looks similar and so are the cooking utensils which were used by my grandmother to dish up the delicious home cook meals for us each time we visited her.

I remembered my grandmother uses this type of coconut husk as a ladle to cook curry tamarind soup and the metal bowls as containers.

There are not many of this type of restaurants left in George Town, Penang. It's a waste that some of them have make way for modernization...
