Penang Indian Milkman

Zoom2see presents to you the Indian milkman that provides home milk delivery services around George Town, Penang. There used to be many of them but has since decreased over the years and not many people are aware of their existence.

The milkman usually starts the day delivering the milk straight to their customers doorsteps. They have a container mounted at the back of the motorbike.

Many people still like to consume this fresh milk …..as they enjoy the super fresh and richer taste.

I remember drinking fresh cows milk that was deliver to my doorsteps everyday in bottles when I was small. I have seen this container driven on the back of motobikes in Penang but wonder what it is. Now I know its the milkman. Thks for sharing.

I trust the milk sold like this still comes with a thick layer of cream rising to the top of the bottle, non-homogenised, unlike what we get in the supermarkets now.

It is good to know that those itinerant Indian milkmen still ply their trade. Half a world away from Penang and a generation ago, in Trinidad as a kid, was my last contact with them.

As in your report they were Indian too and some ladled the milk from tin containers, plainer ones though than in your photos, while others brought the milk to customers in old rum bottles washed and provided by the customers.

Always there was that head of sweet cream that we competed for.
